# The user interface

Layout of Equipme Pro: sidebar with all menu items, badges for open tasks, header with "Add", help and user menu, switching to the customer portal, tables and display settings.

## Layout

* **Sidebar (left):** the main menu. The groups can be expanded and collapsed; Equipme Pro remembers their state. Numbers (badges) show open tasks.
* **Header (top):** menu button or back arrow, your logo, "Add", "Help", user menu and language.
* **Content area:** the current page. On detail pages, the back arrow at the top left takes you to the previous page.

On a smartphone the sidebar collapses; open it via the menu icon ☰.

## The sidebar

Which entries you see depends on your roles. Entries you have no permission for are hidden.

* "Picking", "Production" and "Shipping" only appear if you may process orders and your company uses a warehouse.
* Your customers' Equipme Operate ticket system has no menu item in Pro (see [Ticket system (Equipme Operate)](/pro/operations/tickets.md)).
* With **Lite access**, the sidebar only contains "Sales" → "Customers" (see [Business models and licenses](/pro/getting-started/business-models.md#full-pro-access-and-lite-access)).

### User menu in detail

* **"My profile"** opens your own user (see [Users](/pro/administration/users.md)).
* **"My account"** opens account management for your password and sign-in details in a new tab.
* **"Settings"** opens a dialog with:
  * **"Theme"**: "Light" or "Dark (beta)". Dark mode is only available in Equipme Pro, not in the customer portals.
  * **"Enable automatic logout"**
* **"Info"** leads to the terms and conditions, the privacy notice and the legal notice stored under [Customer portal (white label)](/pro/customers/customer-portal.md#legal-notice).

## Switching to the customer portal

Equipme Pro and the customer portal are separate applications. You switch into the portal of a Hosted customer like this:

* in the customer list via the icon in the **"Portal"** column or the ⋮ menu → **"Open customer portal"**,
* in the customer details via the **"Customer portal"** button.

The portal opens in a **new tab**, signed in as you, in the customer's context. Equipme Pro stays open in the original tab. This requires a permission for this customer (see [Customer details](/pro/customers/customer-details.md#permitted-users)). Switching is not possible for end customers and partners.

After you create a new customer, Equipme Pro also opens their portal automatically in a new tab.

## Tables

All lists work the same way:

* **Search:** search field above the table.
* **Sort:** click the column header.
* **Filter:** via the filter icon or the column menu, depending on the column with a value selection, yes/no, date range or conditions.
* **Show and hide columns:** via the column icon. Some columns are hidden by default.
* **Export:** via the export button as an Excel file, with the currently filtered and sorted rows.
* **Right-click** on a row opens a context menu with the most important actions in many tables.

Equipme Pro remembers column selection, filters and sorting per table.

## Frequently asked questions

**I'm missing menu items that a colleague sees.**

The sidebar only shows what your roles allow. Ask your administrator to check your roles under [Roles and permissions](/pro/administration/roles-and-permissions.md).

**The "New customer" entry in the "Add" menu is grayed out.**

You may not create customers. That is allowed for, e.g., "Administrator", "Account Manager", "Sales" and "Reseller".

**Can I offer the dark theme to my customers too?**

No. Dark mode is a beta feature for providers in Equipme Pro. Customer portals are always shown in light mode.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://hub.equipme.io/pro/getting-started/user-interface.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
